Interventies bij jongeren in justitiële behandelinrichtingen

De stand van zaken

Abstract

Van veel strafrechtelijke interventies bij jongeren staat niet of onvoldoende vast of zij effectief zijn. In dit artikel wordt de stand van zaken besproken van de interventies die toegepast worden in de justitiële behandelinrichtingen voor jongeren in Nederland. Er wordt ingegaan op de positie van en de beeldvorming over de justitiële jeugdinrichtingen. Vervolgens worden de doelgroepen van deze inrichtingen beschreven. In dit overzicht is een onderscheid gemaakt tussen effectonderzoek over integrale interventies en over afzonderlijke interventies. Beide soorten effectonderzoek worden van kanttekeningen voorzien. Tot besluit wordt een aantal aanbevelingen gedaan voor toekomstig onderzoek.

Treatment of juvenile offenders in Dutch justice treatment facilities: The state of the art

For many juvenile justice interventions it is not or insufficiently established whether they are effective. This article discusses the state of affairs with regard to the interventions that are applied in the justice treatment facilities for juvenile offenders in The Netherlands. The position and public image of the juvenile justice facilities is discussed. Subsequently, the target groups of these facilities are described.

In this review a distinction is made between effect studies of integral interventions and effect studies of separate interventions. Both types are critically evaluated and recommendations for future research are suggested. At this moment only foreign research about the effectiveness of treatment with juvenile offenders placed under a criminal justice order is available. It is remarkable that these internationally established effective interventions are still only quite modestly applied in The Netherlands.
