Waarom zouden psychiaters eigenlijk psychotherapeut worden?

Abstract

Een gedegen, evidence basedtheoretische en praktische opleiding in de psychotherapie is een noodzaak voor psychiaters. Hoewel een opleiding in de verschillende psychotherapeutische referentiekaders geen vereiste is, is inzicht in deze theoretische kaders van belang voor de indicatiestelling voor psychotherapie. In dit artikel worden de huidige opleidingseisen betreffende de psychotherapie in de opleiding voor psychiaters gepresenteerd en geïllustreerd aan de hand van twee verschillende opleidingsmodellen.

Why should a psychiatrist become a psychotherapist as well?

A thorough, evidence based theoretical and practical training in psychotherapy is a must for psychiatrists. Although a specific training in the different schools of psychotherapy is not a necessity, knowledge of these schools is required for the referral of a patient to a certain modality of psychotherapy. In this article the current demands for the training in psychotherapy for psychiatrists are presented. As an illustration, two different models of training are described.
