Abstract

First construct validation of the profile interpretation of the Dutch short form of the MMPI using the TAT
This paper describes the results of a preliminary inquiry into the construct validation of the theory-driven profile interpretation of the Dutch short form of the MMPI, as developed by the first two authors. The profile interpretation was validated against ‘the complexity of representations of people’, a dimension measured by the Social cognition and object relations scale, a TAT scoring system developed by Westen. Results support the hypothesis that by profile interpretation a latent vulnerability factor for psychopathology can be detected. The level of Complexity decreases as hypothesized structural pathology increases.
