Over steunende interventies bij het oplossen van divergerende conflicten in inzichtgevende therapie

Abstract

Het door Kris voorgestelde onderscheid tussen divergerende en convergerende intrapsychische conflicten verheldert de rol van steun bij inzichtgevende psychoanalytische therapievormen. Bij patiënten die worstelen met een dilemma, bestaat er bij divergerende conflicten een karakteristieke bron van weerstand tegen de therapie en verandering. In tegenstelling tot convergerende conflicten komen divergerende conflicten niet tot oplossing door het opheffen van de verdringing door duiding, maar door een proces dat lijkt op rouw waarbij een steunende, actieve therapeutische houding vaak noodzakelijk is.

Supporting interventions in resolving divergent conflicts

The distinction between convergent and divergent intraphsychic conflicts, as proposed by A. Kris, elucidates the role of support in expressive psychoanalytic modes of therapy. As observed in patients struggling with a dilemma, a typical form of resistance to therapy and change is present in divergent conflicts. In contrast to convergent conflicts, divergent conflicts are not resolved as a consequence to the lifting of repression by interpretation, but as a consequence of a process akin to mourning, which may necessitate an active, supportive therapeutic stance.
