Samenvatting

Grote psychologische theorieën met uitgesproken onderliggende filosofische assumpties zijn niet meer erg in trek in het wetenschappelijk psychologisch onderzoek. Ze worden – al dan niet terecht – verdacht van gebrek aan stevig empirisch fundament. Meestal wordt beroep gedaan op meer beperkte verklaringsmodellen die zich richten op specifieke fenomenen. Voor het opzetten van grote, coherente onderzoeksprogramma’s en voor het sturen van de psychologische praktijk bieden ‘grote’ theorieën echter een zeer gewaardeerd houvast. Vooral dankzij het recentelijk afgeronde en indrukwekkende promotieonderzoek van dr. Maarten Vansteenkiste onder leiding van prof.
