Diagnostiek en behandeling in een forensische setting: een kwestie van aan- en afleren

Inleiding op een themanummer over forensische psychologie

Samenvatting

De redacteuren van dit themanummer hebben beiden uitgebreide ervaring met de diagnostiek en behandeling van cliënten met angststoornissen, vaak in combinatie met zogenaamde cluster C-persoonlijkheidsproblematiek. Onze cliënten waren sociaal angstig en agorafobisch, hadden vaak een negatief zelfbeeld en wilden maar wat graag van deze problemen af. Het toeval wilde dat wij allebei, op enigszins vergelijkbare momenten in onze loopbaan, een functie kregen in de forensische psychiatrie: voor ons beiden een volledig nieuwe uitdaging. Hoewel wij dachten dat we wel wat wisten van psychopathologie en de behandeling daarvan, hebben wij gemerkt dat het werken in een forensische setting specifieke eisen stelt, die we hier nader bespreken.
