Refraction of light in solids by ultrasonic waves

Summary

The Lucas-Biquard effect of optical refraction in a sound field is experimentally studied in glasses. It is shown that the effect enables the determination of the absolute changes of refractive index, the ratio of elasto-optical constants and the elastic constants of amorphous and crystalline solids.
