Abstract
A lot of CT examinations are dealing with the spinal lumbal region especially concerning degenerative lesions (endemic disease). The structure of the paravertebral muscle area has to be carefully observed and analyzed for diagnostic and treatment reasons. The following forms of muscle atrophy are to be differentiated: diffuse or localized, symmetric or not, ventral or dorsal, deep or superficial muscle structures.
