Abstract
A thirty-eight year old male presenting with recurrent facial palsy, profound hearing impairment and a past history of otitis media was found on computed tomography to have erosion of petrous apex and internal auditory canal. At surgery an intrapetrous cholesteatoma was found which was excised by the translabyrinthine route. Current thoughts on this entity are also discussed excised
