VLSI architectures of filterbanks for subband coding of hdtv signals

Abstract

VLSI architectures of filterbanks necessary for an HDTV subband codec have been investigated. Different techniques have been combined in order to achieve a compact realization. The application of special QMF structures results in a further reduction of hardware expense. High clocking rates are handled using two dimensional polyphase filterbanks in combination with pipelining and parallel processing. An architecture suitable for one-chip implementation of a 10 x 14 tap QM filterbank has been developed.

Architectures vlsi de bancs de filtres pour le codage en sous-bandes des signaux tvhd

Résumé

Les architectures VLSI de bancs de filtres utilisés pour un codeur-décodeur TVHD en sous-bandes ont été étudiées. Différentes techniques ont été combinées pour aboutir à une réalisation efficace en termes de surface de silicium. Ľutilisation de structures spéciales de filtres miroirs en quadrature permet de réduire encore la complexité matérielle. Un fonctionnement à des fréquences ďhorloge élevées est possible grâce à ľutilisation de bancs de filtres polyphasés et ďun traitement parallèle et pipeliné. Une architecture adaptée à la mise en œuvre ďun banc de filtres à 10 x 14 coefficients sur un seul circuit a été développée.
