Summary

  1. 1.

As a result of this investigation, a new alle0le AD of the anthocyanin multiple allalomorphic series inCorchonos capsularis is brought to light. This brings the number of known alleles to five, viz. AD-ADRA L-A-a.

  2. 2.

The highest intensity and distribution of the anthocyanin pigmentation Known inC. capsularis has been found to be associated with the new allele AD and not with AR as reported by earlier workers.

  3. 3.

The dark-red pigmentation pattern inC. capsularis has been identified asCCA D A D rr. It is the highest member of the red group.

  4. 4.

A new synthetic green-pigmented type, called green-dark-red,CGA D A D RR been isolated. It is the highest member of the green-pigmented group.

  5. 5.

A new full-green genotype,ccA D A D RR, has also been isolated. Oocurrence of another full-green genotype,ccA D A D RR, is predicted. This brings the total number of full-green genotypes to ten. Isolation of two more full-green genotypes, ccARARrR andccA L A L RR, is also reported.

  6. 6.

A system of enumeration of the different anthocyanin pigmentation pattern inC. capsularis and their full-green derivatives has been evolved.

Lost at Dacca at the time of partition of India.

We are grateful to Dr B. C. Kundu for his keen interest in the investigation. Our thanks are due to Sri S. K. Mahalanabis for his assistance during the field studies.
