Adenocarcinoma of the esophagus arising in metaplastic (Barrett's) epithelium. Endoscopic study of two cases

  • Published:
Acta Endoscopica

Summary

Esophageal adenocarcinoma arising in a Barrett's epithelium were found in two cases of hiatal hernia complicated with peptic esophagitis. Data of endoscopy, multiple biopsies and surgical specimens dissection are discussed. The authors propose a prospective periodic screening of patients with columnar lined epithelium for early diagnosis of dysplastic changes and adenocarcinoma.
