Diphtheria in infants

  • Published:
Irish Journal of Medical Science (1926-1967)

Summary

Nine cases of diphtheria in infants under one month are reported and the mortality of 100 per cent. is compared with that of previous epidemics.

The significance of green stools occurring early in the disease is discussed.

The mothers of the first six children were skin-tested and found Schick-negative.

Our thanks are due to Dr. C. J. McSweeney for comments on his own experience of the disease in infants, and to the Librarian, Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, for his efforts in procuring literature on the subject.
