Using multivalued logic in relational database containing null value

Abstract

In this paper, several kinds of multivalued logic for relational database and their developing process are presented on the basis of null value’s semantics. A new 5 valued logic is led into relational database containing null value. The feasibility and necessity of using 5 valued logic are defined at the end of the paper.

Ma Zongmin received his M.S. degree in computer & application from Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute, Qiqihar, China in 1992. He is a Research Assistant in Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His publications appear in various journals and conferences, including Chinese Journal of Computers, Computer Research and Development, Computer Science and Mini-micro Systems. His current research interests include incomplete information, database and computer network.

Yan Li is a Lecturer in Liaoning Workers Movement College, Shenyang, China. She is now mainly engaged in research of database theory and teaching.
