Ground and first excited states of excitons in a magnetic field

Summary

An exact calculation of the ground state and of the first excited state withm = 0 and even parity of a hydrogenic system in a magnetic field is described, and results are given for the energy and the main features of the wave functions. Tor the excited state the shape of the nodal surface is given, and it is shown that in this case no contradiction exists between the noncrossing rule and the nodal-surface criterion for the connection of the levels in the low- and high-field regions.
