How difficult is it to search for the Higgs boson systematically?



To search for the Higgs boson systematically, the process e+e→μ+μ + anything, in which the Higgs boson may appear as a spike in the missing-mass plot, isin principle a good candidate. Unfortunately, at a center-of-mass energy of 30 GeV, the design luminosity of PEP and PETRA is far below the level necessary for it to become useful. However, the situation is expected to improve as the total beam energy approaches the Z-boson mass.

Для систематического поиска бозона Хиггса хорошим кандидатом,б нринцине, является процесс e+e→μ+μ + что-нибудь, в котором бозон Хиггса может появиться как пик в кривой недостающей массы. К сожалению, при знергии 30 ГэВ в системе центра масс планируемая светосила PEP и PETRA нначительно ниже уровня, необходимого для исследований. Per ricercare sistematicamente il bosone di Higgs, il processo e+e→μ+μ + qualsiasi cosa, in cui il bosone di Higgs può apparire come un picco nel diagramma della perdita di massa è, in linea di principio, un buon candidato. Sfortunatamente, ad un’energia del centro di massa di 30 GeV, la luminosità di progetto di PEP e PETRA è molto al di sotto del livello necessario perché esso diventi utile. Comunque ci si aspetta che la situazione migliori all’avvicinarsi dell’energia totale del raggio alla massa del bosone Z.
