The use of muonic atoms in the study of valence nucleons

Summary

We suggest that from the analysis of the X-rays emitted by the muons in the atomic electromagnetic cascade, like,e.g., the following: 5g 2/3→4f 7/2→3d 5/2→2p 3/2→1s 1/2, it is possible to obtain information on the radial parameters of the valence nucleon of a closed shell plus one external particle nuclei. In fact, in this case, the nuclear-polarizability energy shift, which is the most important correction to the muonic energy levels, can be evaluated with high accuracy, using deformed Zamick wave functions and HO wave functions with different parameters for the core and the valence particle.
