High-energy behaviour of pion-nucleon scattering partial waves from amplitude analysis

Summary

An attempt is made to evaluate the high-energy behaviour of the lowest partial waves (l≲10) in pion-nucleon scattering, by use of a projection formula in which the data are taken from an amplitude analysis covering only a limited region of momentum transfer. The observed dominance of the amplitudeC (+) provides a suitable criterion to deal with the high-momentum-transfer region not covered by the amplitude analysis. The method is tested by use of the preliminary data from the phase-shift and amplitude analysis of the Karlsruhe-Helsinki group, and a satisfactory result is obtained.

Si tenta di valutare il comportamento ad alta energia delle onde parziali più basse (l≲10) nella diffusione pione-nucleone, usando una formula di proiezione, nella quale i dati vanno presi da un’analisi in ampiezza che copre solo una regione limitata di impulso trasferito. Il ruolo dominante dell’ampiezzaC (+) fornisce un criterio per trattare la regione degli alti impulsi trasferiti non coperta dall’analisi in ampiezza. Il metodo è stato applicato servendosi dei dati preliminari delle analisi in fase e in ampiezza del gruppo di Karlsruhe-Helsinki, ed è stato ottenuto un risultato soddisfacente.
