Summary
Clusters of lattice vacancies are observed, with the help of an electron microscope, in thin evaporated films of doped gold after quenching. Different kinds of aggregates, which are resolved into prismatic loops, stacking-fault tetrahedra, and small dots which can be interpreted as vacancy clusters, are observed; the actual features of the defect structure depend on the supersaturation conditions and on the amount of the doping agent (silver: up to 10-2 atomic concentration).
