Summary

The circular magnetic spectrograph introduced byG. Occhialini for the investigation of β-ray spectra with very low intensity (described inNat.,128, 374 (1931), byD. Bocciarelli) can be also applied to γ-ray spectra. This possibility is discussed, and proved by preliminary experiments on the γ-rays of K40 and Ra B+C, which are described here. As a secondary radiator Pb (photoelectric effect) and Al (Compton effect) have been used. The metod is expected to be particularly useful for extended radioactive sources of low intensity. Preliminary experiments on β-rays from K40 are also reported.
