μ→eγ: Possible signature of heavy neutral leptons

Summary

The rare decay modes μ→eγ, μ→eγ, K+→π+μe and KL → μe are calculated in a model in which two heavy neutral leptons (M0, E0) have right-hand couplings to both muons and electrons. Form E=0.5 andm M=2.0 GeV we find B(μ→eγ)=1.3·10-9δ2,B(K+→π+μ+e-)=5.8·10-14δ2 andB(KL→μ+e-) = 4.8·10-12δ2, where σ=sin 2ω specifies the E0, M0 mixing. We verify that present limits on μe universality are not violated. We present expected production and decay characteristics of the new leptons, and discuss experimental possibilities for observation of gross electron and muon number violations.
