Samenvatting

  1. 1

Summary

  1. 1

In the root-part of celery tubers abortive parts of the plants —leaves and roots—were formed, probably only in galls, obtained by infection withB. tumefaciens.

  2. 2

Whether or not artificial immunization in plants is possible is not settled yet. Some investigators claim to have succeeded in artificially immunizing plants, others obtained negative results. The results of the present writer withRicinus communis andB. tumefaciens were negative also.

  3. 3

No toxins having a similar action on the plants asB. tumefaciens were found to occur in bouillon-cultures of 3, 8, 14 or 28 days old.

  4. 4

Cultures ofB. tumefaciens which are ultra-pure in the sense ofd'Hérelle may produce tumors in plants. This is contradictory tod'Hérelle andPeyre's hypothesis on the formation of galls. The writer favoursMagrou'ss hypothesis on gall-formation as a consequence of the action of mitogenetic rays, radiated byB. tumefaciens.
