Conclusion

These results suggest that hepatitis is the cause of hepatic fibrosis found in most cases of IPO as in IHO. In other words, IPO and IHO in Japan have hepatitis as a common etiologic factor, and the difference between them lies only in severity and location of fibrosis causing flow resistance; namely, in IHO flow resistance is basically at the postsinusoidal level, while in IPO it is at the presinusoidal level.
