Conclusions

Surgery is the treatment of choice in all cases of inguinal hernia. One might advise a waiting period of 2 to 4 years for umbilical herniae and up to 2 years of age for hydrocele. Herniotomy is adequate in a vast majority of cases, the repair of the inguinal canal being needed only in a few cases. This is based on a study of 278 consecutive cases of hernia presented in this paper.
