A linear photodetector with noiseless sensitivity adjustment

Abstract

The sensitivity of linear charge-coupled devices can be adjusted by using controlling voltages on a constant aperture. It is shown that, in the case of devices of traditional design, this adjustment can be accompanied by generation of a correlated (geometric) noise, which essentially deteriorates the resolution capability. A device free of these drawbacks is described.
