A note on brokenSU 3 symmetry

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento A (1965-1970)

Summary

On the assumption that the violation of unitary symmetry transforms like theI=0,Y=0 member of a unitary octet the coupling constants corresponding to the four observed decay modes \(\mathcal{N}*^ - \)→nπ, Y*→Λπ, Y*1 →Σπ and Ξ*→Ξπ of theJ P=3/2+ baryon decuplet may be expressed in terms of three parameters. The ratio between two of the parameters has been estimated from the observed mass splittings by a simple ansatz. We predictΓ(Y*1 →Λπ)=46 MeV andΓ(Y*1 →Σπ)= =0.002 MeV in good agreement with experimental data.
