Summary

The recreational traffic is an use of area, which, like others too, may lead to detoriations of landscape. In beautiful landscapes, last not least in forest stands, it could be the most important one.

The demands for landscape are qualitative and quantitative very different by the various recreational activities.

Very popular activities, like bathing, are leading to a maximum impact.

Subsequently the necessary landscape management concludes 2 spheres of activities:

  1. 1.

Influencing the recreational planning and the recreational traffic toward a rational use of landscape.

  2. 2.

Planning and realization of landscape management measures, like the provision of soil damages and the restoring of plantings and the adapting of recreational institutions in the landscape scenery.

For example the recreational activities and their effects were shown within some lake shores and the nature reservation are “Pupplinger and Ascholdinger Au”, suggestions for guiding and regulating the recreational traffic and landscape management measures are also discussed.

Thus the following general conclusions and demans are:

  1. 1.

The use of the special recreational potential of landscape units for the corresponding recreational activities.

  2. 2.

Guidance and educatoin to a fair landscape behaviour.

  3. 3.

    Dispersed institutions for recreation.

  4. 4.

Protection of rare landscape unities, also as recreational reserve for the future.

The principle of sustained yield is valid for recreation like in the other uses of land, forestry and agriculture.
