Emission of π-mesons in the backward hemisphere in the l.s. of cosmic-ray jets

Conclusion

All the above features fit well into the assumption that the backward π-mesons are the decay products of isobars formed by the target nucleons. Experimental evidence tentatively suggests that there is a fair contribution to the isobars from masses higher than that of the (3/2, 3/2) state of the nucleon.

More statistics on the energy spectrum, charge ratio, a ngular distribution andP T distribution of these π-mesons will give important information about the production of isobars in cosmic-ray jets.
