Decay of the new 2.5 min201Pt

Summary

The radiations from 2.5 min201Pt are investigated by scintillation and coincidence techniques.201Pt was produced by204Hg(n, α)201Pt from natural mercuric oxide irradiated in a reactor. The end point of the β-spectrum was found to be (2660±50) keV. A strong γ-ray of energy (1760 ±20) keV was observed. The half-life of this activity was measured more accurately by following the decay of the 1760 keV y-ray and it was found to be (2.5±0.1) min. A β-γ coincidence study showed the presence of weak γ-rays of energy (70±5), (150±10) and (230±20)keV. A tentative decay scheme based on these observations is proposed. The crosssection for204Hg(n, α)201Pt reaction was estimated to be 2.5 mb.

Con la tecnica degli scintillatori e delle coincidenze si sono studiate le radiazioni del 2.5 min201Pt. Il201Pt era stato prodotto da204Hg(n, α)201Pt con ossido mercurico naturale irradiato in un reattore. Si è trovato che il punto estremo dello spettro β è (2 660±50) keV. Si è osservato un forte raggio γ di energia (1760±20) keV. Si è misurata eon maggiore accuratezza la vita media di questa attività e si è trovato che è (2.5±0.1) min. Lo studio della coincidenza β-γ ha indicato la presenza di deboli raggi γ di energia (70±5), (150±10) e (230±20) keV. Si espone un tentativo di schema di decadimento basato su queste osservazioni.
