Analysis of Σ- absorption in helium

Summary

The momentum spectra of the lambda and the triton observed in the reaction Σ are calculated assuming a phenomenological interaction Hamiltonian for the basic process Σ- + p → λ+ n. Final-state interactions were neglected. Reasonable agreement is obtained for the λ -spectrum and also for the neutron spectrum. Marked deviation is obtained between the calculated and experimental triton spectrum indicating strongly the possibility of a An resonance at about 43 MeV in An system.

Si sono calcolati gli spettri dell’impulso del λ e del tritone osservati nella reazione Σ, prendendo un hamiltoniano di interazione fenomenologico per il processo fondamentale Σ- + p → λ+ n. Si sono trascurate le interazioni dello stato finale. Si ottiene un acoordo ragionevole per lo spettro del A ed ancne per lo spettro neutronico. Si ottiene una marcata deviazione fra gli spettri del tritone calcolato e sperimentale, forte indicazione di una possibile risonanza An a circa 43 MeV nel sistema λn.
