Quantum interference and diffraction in the phase space

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento B (1971-1996)

Summary

It is shown that a coherent superposition ofN squeezed states leads to a photon number distributionP n that is analogous to the classical result of interference and diffraction. The oscillations inP n coincide with those obtained in the classicalN-slits diffraction with a form-factor given by |(n|ψ)|2{sin(2nφn)/sin(2φn}2. Illustrative examples of particular superpositions are considered.
