On the algebra of field-dependent gauge transformations

Summary

The Whitehead operation on a world sheet foliation gives rise to a symmetryG of String Field Theory. Deformations ofG can also be realized on a generalized sigma-model, a mechanics particle action, and on Yang-Mills theory.
