Summary
In the spirit of the Welton calculation of the Lamb shift, it is shown that one can reasonably expect an electron spin relaxation on a time scale of the order of 10−16 seconds. The calculations are made in the context of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics where radiation damping and the zero-point magnetic vacuum field are added to the formal Larmor equation.
