Summary

Wood samples of a trunk and branches of Tamrit cypress (Cupressus dupreziana A. Camus) were studied by light and electron microscope as well as by chemical analysis. the anatomical structure of the wood is in accordance with the general structure of cypress wood. In the electron microscope extractives could be localized in the external layer of the S 2. In the bordered pits different types of membranes were observed. The chemical analysis resulted in extremely high amounts of lignin and extractives. From this derives the high resistance of the tree, which enables its existance at the bounds of ecological conditions. As introduction a survey is given on ecology and biology of the Tamrit cypress. Particularly the morphology, the distribution and the geographical aspects are described.
