Summary
The correlation problem in nuclei is considered following a unitary-model operator. Short-range pseudopotentials are required to be added in order to achieve healing in the wave functions. The tensor forces and the short-range pseudopotentials are renormalized in second-order perturbation theory with the introduction of correlated basis wave functions. The orbitals are expanded in terms of harmonic-oscillator functions. The second-order terms are found to provide important correlations to the calculated binding energy. The present approach has been applied, through the Hartree-Fock method for the resulting effective Hamiltonian, to the two finite closed-shell spherical nuclei16O and40Ca. Hartree-Fock calculations have been carried out for these two nuclei,16O and40Ca, with an effective interaction derived from the Hamada-Johnston, the Yale, the Reid potentials and from the potentialA calculated by us. Our present calculations for the binding energies per particle for the16O and40Ca nuclei are in good agreement with the experimental measurements.
