The kinetics of double-kink relaxation

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento B (1971-1996)

Summary

After a brief discussion of the Seeger-Engelke theory of the Bordoni peak a new approach to the problem of the kinetics of double-kink relaxation is presented. It is shown that for the mechanism of kink nucleation and subsequent spreading of the kinks a mobility of the dislocation can be defined. This yields a simple Debye peak for the double-kink relaxation. However, it is found that both the relaxation time and the relaxation strength are strongly stress dependent. The extremely large widths of the Bordoni peaks can thus be attributed to a distribution of internal or bias stresses and/or to the effect of large amplitudes of the oscillating driving stress.
