Abstract
The composition of an oleoresin ofP. montezumae from Guatemala has been studied. The main component of the turpentine was α-pinene with an amount of 81 per cent, besides of 11 per cent of myrcene, an amount which is unusually high for a gum turpentine. The resin acid fraction consists of about 68 per cent of abietane type acids besides of 14 per cent of isopimaric and 6 per cent of pimaric acid. Primary and secondary hydroxyl compounds are missing in the neutral diterpenes fraction. About 20 per cent of this fraction consists of carbonyl compounds with pimaral, isopimaral, abietal and one unidentified presumable hydroxy aldehyde or hydroxy ketone being the main components.
