Quadrupole direct capture

Summary

An expression of the cross-section for the quadrupole radiative capture of nucleons by nuclei via direct mechanism is given. The142Ce(p, γ) reaction is investigated in the (10÷50) MeV energy range. It is shown that for proton energies above 20 MeV the quadrupole contribution to the cross-section may be of the same order of magnitude as the dipole one.

Получается выражение поперечного сечения для квадрупольного радиационного эахвата нуклонов ядрами череэ прямой механиэм. Исследуется реакция142Ce(p, γ) в области знергий (10÷50) МзВ. Покаэывается, что для знергий протонов выще 20 МзВ квадрупольный вклад в поперечное сечение может быть того же порядка, что и дипольный вклад.

Riassunto

Si ottiene un’espressione della sezione d’urto per la cattura radiativa di quadrupolo di nucleoni da parte dei nuclei attraverso il meccanismo diretto. La reazione142Ce(p, γ) è studiata nella regione energetica da 10 a 50 MeV. Si mostra che il contributo di quadrupolo alla sezione d’urto per energie di protone più elevate di 20 MeV può essere dello stesso ordine di grandezza di quello di dipolo.
