On the physical mechanism of the radiofrequency plasma

Summary

The equilibrium conditions of a radiofrequency-excited plasma subject to a steady magnetic field are discussed. A simple model for the prediction of the equilibrium condition between the absorbed and the dissipated power is proposed. This model is applied to the interpretation of previous experimental observations. A simple resonance phenomenon is thus shown to be the possible basis of the radiofrequency discharge mechanism.

Si discutono le condizioni di equilibrio di un plasma eccitato da una radioonda in presenza di un campo magnetico costante. Si propone un semplice modello per la previsione della condizione di equilibrio tra potenza assorbita e dissipata dal plasma. Si applica il modello teorico all’interpretazione di precedenti osservazioni sperimentali. Si mostra così che un semplice fenomeno di risonanza è probabilmente alle base del meccanismo della scarica a radiofrequenza.
