Abstract
By IR spectroscopy, starting points are put at disposal to identify the infestation by wood destroying fungi in a relatively early stage. Though, it is difficult to indentify qualitative modifications, quantitative modifications are determined by investigation of the quotient of the extinction maxima of the wave number 1740 cm−1 and 896 cm−1. The investigation is based on oxidation phenomena at the lignin molecule because of the enzymatic mechanism of action of the fungi.
