Abstract

During open-air weathering of particleboard the degrading mechanisms are not only dependent on the adhesive, but also on other parameters of board production and testing set-up, this can result in a misinterpretation of the bonding performance. Mechanism and degree of efficiency of the laboratory tests depend on the testing method and the board type. Regression analyses show that the correlations between the different tests as well as between the different properties tested may be differently strong. The tests V 100 and V 313 e.g. estimate the “chemical” and the “mechanical” resistance of particleboard bonding respectively.
