Summary
From the above preliminary experiments it may be seen that the damping property is dependent on not only the stress, but also the duration of the dynamic stress and the inclination of the grain angle in wood. It is, therefore, concluded that like any other mechanical property in wood, the damping property also depends on the elasto-plastic nature of the material and has a reference to the principal orthotropic axes of symmetry. Further investigations on these lines are considered necessary to generalize the nature of damping properties and its relation to such characteristics of the material as creep, fatigue and toughness.
