The development of weather- and boil-proof phenol-resorcinol-furfural cold-setting adhesives

Abstract

Phenol-resorcinol-furfural, resorcinol-furfural and resorcinol-phenol-furfural cold-setting resins of performance comparable to that of equivalent formaldehyde-based cold-setting resins have been prepared. The phenol-resorcinol-furfural resins were also proved to be suitable for the preparation of „honeymoon” fast-set adhesives with performance comparable to that of phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde resins for the same type of application. Tannin-resorcinol-furfural cold-setting resins of comparable performance have also been prepared. The best phenol-resorcinol-furfural adhesive resin appears to have cost comparable to that of commercial phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde formulations and a few technical advantages, the main one of which is the lower volumetric shrinkage of the resin on curing.

Zur Entwicklung wetter-und kochfester kältehärtender Phenol-Resorcinol-Furfural-Kleber

Zusammenfassung

Es wurden kaltabbindende Phenol-Resorcin-Furfural-, Furfural- und Resorcin-Phenol-Furfural Harze hergestellt, die in ihrem Verhalten mit den entsprechenden auf der Basis von Formaldehyd kalt-abbindenden Harzen vergleichbar sind. Die Phenol-Resorcin-Furfural Harze sind auch für die Herstellung von schnellabbindenden “Honeymoon” Klebstoffen geeignet und verhalten sich vergleichbar den Phenol-Resorcin-Formaldehyd Harzen im gleichen Anwendungsgebiet. Es wurden auch kaltabbindende Tannin-Resorcin-Furfural Harze mit vergleichbarem Verhalten hergestellt. Es scheint, daß das beste Phenol-Resorcin-Furfural-Klebstoffharz ähnlich viel kostet wie die handelsüblichen Phenol-Resorcin-Formaldehyd-Formulierungen und einige technische Vorteile besitzt, hauptsächlich ein geringeres volumetrisches Schrumpfen des Harzes beim Härten.
