Abstract
The anastomoses of the resin canal system has been studied in three European conifers. It became obvious that the connections between the axial and radial ducts are formed in the manner of anastomoses. Intertwinements of axial ducts with rays initiate the formation of the radially orientated canal system. The connections differ in their structure with respect to the arrangement within the ray/duct cross field. Four different types of anastomoses are discussed. The principle of anastomosis is explained as an example of the functional tropism.
