Summary
In laboratory tests on malt agar and on Scots pine sapwood blocks, the influence of various wood preservatives on the viability of blue-stain fungus spores was examined. It was found that most of the chemicals were able to kill spores when applied in a concentration sufficient to prevent mycelial growth. The same influence was observed with a gaseous distribution of preservatives. By the killing of growing blue-stain mycelium, the germination capacity of the produced spores was totally reduced. Organic mercury compounds showed to possess the best fungicidal activity.
