Summary
The present ways of using timber, above all in chipboard industry, seem quite obviously to be contradictory to those structural properties of grown wood to which the timber owes its principal advantages as a construction material. The structure of the grown wood mainly gives it the properties of high elasticity with respect to bending and buckling-strength and, at the same time, little weight. In chipping, however, the wood is dissected into minute particles to be composed again into large units. By the author this is called unreasonable and, as against the use of annuals (flax), uneconomic. He suggests to animate and develop thoroughly the undeveloped field of industrial manufacture of wooden construction elements by drastic rationalization measures. To this branch of production that part of raw wood which is suitable for wooden constructive elements would have to be delivered, which presently is still chipped and manufactured into boards. The rationalization measures have to be extended to all processes of production, such as cutting, gluing, lay-up, hardening, impregnation, and mechanical moulding. The Imperkol method, developed by the author, can be simultaneously used for the two processes of hardening and impregnation.
