Summary
The fluorescent light emitted from the lignified cell wall of jute fibres is partially polarised. This effect is shown to be form-difluorescence caused by the submicroscopic cellulose texture. From the absence of an intrinsic-difluorescence although dissolved lignin molecules display anisotropic fluorescence, the author concludes, that there is no orientation of lignin. The form-difluorescence is shown to obey to the same laws as the form-dichroism.
