Abstract
It is generally well known that any alteration in sawtooth shape can influence blade performance considerably. While the effect of such general alterations in shape is seldom quantified in practice, the specific quantitative effects of modifications in shape and hardness of the sawtooth apex are virtually unknown. As the sawtooth apex is the major working part of the cutting tool, better understanding of its geometry should lead to significant improvements in sawblade design.
