Zusammenfassung

Die Forstwirtschaft in Mitteleuropa hat neben der Produktion des Rohstoffes Holz große—wenn auch nicht immer optimale—Leistungen für die Gesunderhaltung unseres Lebensraummen erbracht. Dennoch finden heute besonders diejenigen Stimmen das Ohr der Öffentlichkeit, welche den bisherigen Beitrag der Forstwirtschaft für die Wohlfahrtswirkungen unserer Landschaft schmälern und den Einflu\ der einheimischen Holzproduktion auf unsere Volkswirtschaft weitgehend verkennen. Im Rahmen eines Kolloquiums, in dem viele Meinungen gehört wurden, erschien es deshalb angemessen, die Rolle des Rohstoffes Holz für die Welt und die Bedeutung der einheimischen Holzproduktion für Gegenwart und Zukunft einmal mehr und pointiert herauszustellen. Zusammenfassend ergibt sich daraus die Notwendigkeit, alle möglichen Wege zu suchen, die eine vielseitige, ausreichend hohe Holzproduktion und eine gesunde, in den volkswirtschaftlichen Prozeß vielseitig verzahnte Holzindustrie mit den Erfordernissen der Erhaltung unseres Lebensraumes in Einklang bringen. Dabei sollte man davon ausgehen, daß zwischen der Holzproduktion und den Wohlfahrtswirkungen der Wälder auch in dicht besiedelten Gebieten der Welt zunächst kein beweisbarer, grundsätzlicher Widerspruch bestcht, vor allem dann nicht, wenn man ihn an allen anderen Wirtschaftszweigen mißt.

Besides the production of the raw material wood, forestry in Central Europe has created great benefits to keep intact our environment, even if sometimes these benefits were not as high as they could possibly be. Yet nowadays those voices are readily heard by the public which doubt the contributions of forestry to the benefits of our landscape and which under-estimate to a great extent the influence of our home wood production on the economy of our country. Within the frame of a colloquium, at which many opinions were presented, it seemed opportune to emphasize and discuss in more detail the world-wide importance of wood as a raw material and the future importance of home wood production for our grand-children. In conclusion, the necessity arises to search for all possible ways permitting a manifold, sufficiently high production of wood and a sound wood industry, integrated satisfactorily into the national economy, to be harmonized with the requirements for the conservation of our environment. Considering the above facts, we should try to prove that no fundamental contradictions exist between the production of wood on the one hand and the beneficial effects of forests on the other even in densely populated areas of the world, particularly not, when compared with all the other industries.
