Abstract

Spruce and lodgepole pine kiln dried boards were labelled and sawn into sections. One section was needle incised in Germany while a matching section was incised using a conventional North American incising technique. After pressure treatment with chromated-copperarsenate (CCA) the preservative penetration and retentions were measured. Comparison of these two parameters, for both the wood species, showed that needle incising significantly improved the treatment compared to conventional incising. Further studies are required to evaluate alternative Canadian wood species.
